Six steps, from the ground up

What we do differently at every stage — learned from taking apart the decks that did not last.

    01 Foundation
An underground footing form sized to your deck’s specific load requirements, buried a minimum of 18″. Above ground, a 10″ round form standing at least 12″ proud so your posts stay rot free, mounted on a Simpson stand-off post base.
    02 Framing
Most decks fail to dry rot at structural connections. Advances in hardware, flashing and framing technique let us avoid wood-to-wood connections. We never flat block, so debris washes through. Powder-coated steel framing is available as an upgrade.
    03 Decking
Locked in with FastenMaster stainless hidden fasteners, not vinyl clips. Every cut edge chamfered so the surface is smooth and snag free. Every deck picture-framed with a border board to hide cut edges and protect the rim joist.
    04 Stairs
The hardest place to keep cut edges covered. Each riser is mitered and epoxied into the stringer fascia for a seamless full wrap, then every step is picture-framed with the fascia overhung for definition and protection.
    05 Railing
You know the wobbly, bulky, high-maintenance kind — the one you spend weekends sanding and tightening. We fit maintenance-free railing systems so you can spend the summer enjoying the view instead.
    06 Accessories
Lights, fire pit, pergola, outdoor kitchen and living. Accessories are usually what turns a deck into the place everyone actually wants to be.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an Express Deck and a Custom Deck?
Express Decks are pre-designed. You choose a deck, choose your finishes and get a quick estimate — same build standard as our custom work, at a reduced price, because the design work is already done. A Custom Deck is drawn around your space, either as a direct replacement of what is there now or an all-new design from scratch.
Which decking products do you build with?
Trex, TimberTech and Fortress. Each of them runs a builder programme, and Platinum is the top rung of all three — we hold it with every one. Deck tops are locked in with FastenMaster stainless steel hidden fasteners rather than vinyl clips.
    Which areas do you serve?
Auburn, Meadow Vista and greater Placer County, across the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Can you replace my existing deck?
Yes. A direct replacement keeps the functionality of the deck you already have and gives it a fresh new look. If you would rather rethink the space entirely, we start from scratch and bring the creative direction.
    Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — California licence # 975870, licensed, bonded and insured, with liability and workers compensation cover.
How do I get a price?
Design your deck in the 3D designer and the price updates as you go, then send the design straight to Jake. Most people have a number in under five minutes. If you would rather talk it through, call (530) NEW-DECK.
